Time, our enemy in so much of life – is the writer’s friend. Can’t remember who said that, but it always strikes a chord whenever I think of it.
My third book is in completed draft form – a chunk of dirty, pretty, ugly, tangled words. The story those words tell is really something – I’m fired up to share it. In fact, I want it in the hands of readers yesterday. But I know I have to pay my dues, build and craft and hone before it’s ready to be out there. The storyteller makes a promise, a bargain with his readers. No shortcuts. The word holds sway.
In the meantime (exhales long breath) I’m writing a story that’s been rattling around my brain looking to cut loose – a short – something that’ll be out before the full-length Whicher Series book three. Set around the oil fields of West Texas, it features John Whicher and the daughter of an army pal gone AWOL. It’s shaping up to be a good one. I hope you’ll think so too.
